Coming Soon: 2018 Dodge Ram Mega Cab

With the 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 debuting soon sometime in the remainder of the autumn season, truck enthusiasts are getting excited for the day they can finally get behind the wheel of the newest model. While the 2017 models haven’t even made it into dealership lots in Canada yet, there is already talk brewing over a brand new 2018 Dodge Ram that will feature an extended mega cab. Before we get started on the gossip surrounding the 2018 version, let’s outline what the 2017 Dodge Ram has in store for us.

Introducing the 2017 Dodge Ram

An all-new generation of our favourite full-size half-ton pickup, the 2017 Dodge Ram gets a slightly redesigned interior and exterior with emphasis on engineering to reduce its weight and increase fuel economy. New trim packages and available 2-door and 4-door cab configurations are still prominent on the 2017 Dodge Ram, with bed lengths ranging anywhere from 5’7 to 8 feet. Three engines are available, including the 3.6L Pentastar V6 featuring 305 HP and 269 lb-ft. Of torque, the 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 featuring 240 HP and 420 lb-ft. of torque, and the 5.7L HEMI V8 which displays 395 HP and 410 lb-ft. Of torque. All engines offer 8-speed automatic transmission.

Stylistic elements aside, the 2017 Dodge Ram comes standard with power-assisted four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, electronic stability control systems, and supplemental side curtain and front seat side-mounted airbags. Available advanced safety features like rear park assist and a rear backup camera can be added to most models. More than 45 advanced safety and securities went into the making of the 2017 Dodge Ram, to ensure you and your passengers have access to a safe and reliable ride wherever you go.

What Can We Expect from Dodge in 2018?

According to reports circulating late last summer, the few 2018 Dodge Ram models that have been spotted appear significantly larger and longer when it comes to their overall cab design and wheelbase. Talk of a larger door opening and more rear-seat cargo space have also come up, along with more space added to the B-pillar. It’s expected that the 2018 Dodge Ram will use a mix of lightweight materials, borrowing from the design of the 2017 Dodge Ram, to continue down a path of better fuel economy and reduced weight. It would also allow it to better compete with one of its biggest competitors, the Ford F-150. Production is estimated to start as early as January 2018, with it eventually debuting as a 2019 model. The emphasis on the newest addition to the Ram family is lightweight materials, better fuel economy and more cargo and cab bed space.

Will the 2018 Dodge Ram Design Change?

Though it’s a bit too early to make any assumptions, the new 2018 Dodge Ram is expected to have a lower grille with smaller headlights integrated within to enhance aerodynamics, and contribute to better fuel economy. The bed will be designed using steel, while the body will have elements of aluminum. Horizontal fog lights will be added to the bumper. The modified Ram 1500 is all the rage right now, boasting a much larger mega-cab. The tailgate may also appear to have a new gate. While the width of the new Ram will likely apply to all models, the extended cab is likely being saved for a specialty or limited edition model.

Inside the 2018 Dodge Ram, things appear quite similar to the 2017 models. The switchgear is very similar, and it uses a Chrysler-Pacifica steering wheel to incorporate the latest telematics. LED lighting is expected to appear throughout the cabin, and most of the aesthetics will stay in the same place, except for the climate control system and stereo, which may be relocated.
